With our growing globalization, the human race has nearly destroyed nature and mother earth. By 2030, based on UN reports the worst impacts of climate change would be irreversible. This is leaving us only just a decade to halve our emissions to avert the worst climate impacts. From air pollution, rise of greenhouse gas emissions and water table reduction we have polluted and degraded the environment. It’s high time we curb these pollutants to save the environment from a difficult and catastrophic time ahead.  The need of the hour is to increase green cover and plant trees. Trees are the lungs of nature. Importance of plants can never be overlooked, as it provides us with the most important element of life and helps to reduce and slow down these adverse climatic changes that we have created.

According to the Experts, at least 33% of the geographical area should be covered by forest/trees in a country to maintain ecological balance. In India this percentage is only 21.67% according to ISFR Reports (2019). They don’t only help humans but every living thing on the planet. They beautify the earth and turn the desert into an earthly paradise. They provide natural adobe to birds and animals. They provide all living organisms with food and shelter. They keep the stream of life running. Basically, trees are friends of humanity and share our feelings and mood. 

Taking all these factors into account, Thuvakkam started the Pasumai Thuvakkam a.k.a Tree Plantation project. Each soil and environment has different vegetation. Few plants grow in all soil and there are few plants which grow extremely well in their native environment. In this project such native tree saplings are taken and plantated based on the geographical location by the Thuvakkam team. These plants are not only planted but are also given manure and maintained regularly with periodic intervals till the saplings grow to a certain height and show strength to be self-sufficient. This helps in creating a sustenance of the plants.

By this project we will be able to reduce the toxic gases, improve climate, absorb carbon dioxide and even increase the water table over a period of time in that locality. The plants also give out fresh and clean oxygen which all living things breathe for survival.

• Thuvakkam not only plants the sapling but is exhaustively involved in the maintenance of the same at regular intervals. This helps in creating a sustainable impact on the green cover.
• Based on the topography of the area the native trees and growth factor varies. To promote native species and enhance the growth of native tree saplings are taken and planted based on the geographical location.
• Every terrain is different; hence a customized way of the tree plantation method is followed based on the region.
