Ahmedabad One Mall spreads ‘happyness’ with Community Fridge
Do you hate food going to waste? Wouldn’t it be better if the food can instead go to the poor and hungry? This is what Ahmedabad One mall, the mall of choice for Amdavadis, is attempting to achieve through its Community Fridge initiative, the first such community fridge in the city.
Ahmedabad One mall has set up a Community Fridge in its Food Court where patrons can leave food, fruits, and vegetables.
“We observed that some food bought by patrons was left unconsumed, and it was invariably going to the waste bins. We were looking at ways to stop wastage of food, and this is why we thought of installing a Community Fridge. We are very happy that it has allowed us to channelize extra food to the hungry and needy,” said Mr Akashdeep Singh Noul, Centre Director of Ahmedabad One Mall.
The Community Fridge initiative has received a very good response from the mall’s patrons and other food donors so far. The mall has roped in an NGO to distribute the unconsumed fresh food among the needy, and the food left behind by patrons is bringing smiles to more than 10 families each day. Ahmedabad One mall expects the number to go up as more patrons and businesses support the initiative.
“The idea of Community Fridge goes beyond the idea of making our customers happy. It is an attempt to spread smiles and ‘happyness’ among people in need of food,” Mr Akashdeep Singh Noul added.
