List of five grants for NGOs in India in January 2019

1. UNDEF Invites Proposals For Inclusion Of The Voice Of Civil Society And Promoting Democracy

Organization- United Nations Democracy Fund

Grant Amount - $100,000- $300,000

Deadline – 15th January 2019

Description-

UNDEF invites proposals for projects taking place in one country only (local) or occur in several specified states of a region or sub-region or intend to operate at the global level.

UNDEF will support two-year projects that empowers civil society, promotes human rights, and encourages the participation of all groups in democratic processes. The large majority of UNDEF funds go to local civil society organizations.

UNDEF prompts project proposals covering one or more of eight thematic areas: 

  • Gender equality Community activism
  • Rule of law and human rights
  • Youth engagement
  • Strengthening civil society interaction with Government
  • Media and freedom of information
  • Tools for knowledge
  • Electoral processes

    • Eligibility Criteria-

    The following institutions are eligible for UNDEF grant funding:

  • Civil Society Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations, engaged in promoting democracy. These are anticipated to receive the bulk of the funding.
  • Independent and Constitutional Bodies, including Election Commissions, Ombudsman Institutions, National Human Rights Institutions and other independent governance bodies, for project proposals facilitating the inclusion of the voice of civil society.
  • Global and Regional inter-government bodies, organizations and associations other than the United Nations, for project proposals which strengthen the voice of civil society.

    • UNDEF’s priority is Civil Society Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations and the large majority of UNDEF funds go to local civil society organizations.

    2. Call For Proposals - UN Trust Fund To End Violence Against Women 2018

    Organization – UN Women

    Grant Amount –

  • 3-year grants of US$ 150,001 to US$ 1 million for all civil society organizations
  • 3-year grants of US$ 50,000 to US$ 150,000 for small civil society organizations

    • Deadline – 18th January 2019

    Description-

    The United Nations Trust Fund in support of Actions to Eliminate Violence against Women is a global multi-lateral mechanism supporting national efforts to end of the most widespread human rights violations in the world.

    Within the general framework, the UN Trust Fund is establishing two special thematic windows of funding with a focus on:

  • addressing violence against women and girls in the context of the current forced displacement and refugee crisis; and
  • Addressing violence against women and girls with disabilities.

    • Eligibility Criteria-

    Applications are invited from:

  • Women-led and women’s right organization
  • Humanitarian organizations
  • Organizations of women with disabilities, as well as organizations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) and civil society organizations working with women and girls with disabilities
  • Regional/international civil society organizations and networks (women-led, women’s rights and humanitarian organizations as well as organizations of persons with disabilities only)

    3. Request For Proposal: Skill Development For Disadvantaged Youth, HSBC Skills For Life: 2019-Grants for empowering youth

    Organization: Swades Foundation

    Grant Amount:  INR 25 lakhs to INR 75 lakh

    Deadline: 21st January 2019

    Description

    The Swades Foundation in partnership with HSBC is inviting proposals from NGOs, for skills projects specifically emphasising on empowering youth from disadvantaged communities/ background through skill training.

    HSBC Skills for Life, a five year INR 100 crore commitment by HSBC India will focus on employment linked skill development of disadvantaged youth, up skilling of teachers and educators, and women empowerment through financial education and livelihood enhancement.

    Eligibility Criteria

    NGOs that are registered in India as a Trust, Society or a Section 25/ Section 8 Company, having a valid FCRA registration are eligible to apply.

    4. P4G Grant For Public-Private Partnerships That Are Advancing Innovative Strategies To Achieve The Sustainable Development Goals

    Organization – P4G – Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030

    Grant Amount – up to USD 100,000

    Deadline – 15th February 2019

    Description-

    P4G, a new initiative with the ambition of becoming the world’s leading forum for developing a concrete public-private partnership at scale to deliver on the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. They bring business, government, and civil society organizations together in innovative public-private partnerships to advance solutions to meet humanity’s greatest needs in the areas of- food and agriculture, water, energy, cities and circular economy.

    Eligibility Criteria-

    P4G will provide funding only to partnerships in the start-up and scale-up phases of development and growth.

  • Start-up: Promising, early-stage partnerships that need support to consolidate the partnership or test the feasibility of innovative approaches.
  • Scale-up: Partnerships that are already engaged in promising, business-driven green growth innovations and need support to scale up and accelerate their impact

    5. Call For Proposals For Innovative Strategies & Approaches To Improve Employment Opportunities For Disadvantaged & Vulnerable Group

    Organization – British Council

    Grant amount -EUR 250,000 - EUR 400,000

    Deadline – 15th February 2019

    Description –

    As a part of VET Toolbox project, British Council is launching a EU-funded call for proposals to promote inclusive, demand-driven VET & skills development. The specific objective of the call is to fund innovative and inclusive initiatives that improve employment opportunities in the formal and informal labour market for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups through vocational education and training.

    Activities should be innovative, entail an upscaling potential, be cost-effective, sustainable and show local ownership.

    Eligibility Criteria-

  • The lead applicant must be a non-state actor and non-profit making actor.
  • The co-applicant(s) can be for-profit institutions (grant must not raise profits) and/or public-sector institutions, authorities, and organizations.
  • The lead applicant must act with at least one co-applicant(s). One of them must be legally established and registered in the country where the action takes place.
