Mitsubishi Electric initiates Clean Water & Sanitation Program in Kolkata
Mitsubishi Electric India initiated its Corporate Social Responsibility in Kolkata. The company has provided clean drinking water facility at two Government schools to ensure a comfortable environment for school children to study and excel. Mitsubishi Electric India has aligned its social development programs around United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Government of India policies such as Jal Shakti Abhiyaan, National Rural Health Mission of India and National Green Mission of India. The company primarily covers three SDGs which are Clean Water & Sanitation, Good Health &Well-Being and Climate Action and will continue to do so in coming years as well.
Kolkata is an educational, commercial and cultural centre of India and is known as the third most populous metropolitan city of India. The city of joy is best known for its cultural heritage. Mitsubishi Electric India would like to be a part of the city’s development by supporting the younger generations of the city.
The Company used a multi-layered approach for this sustainability activity:
1)Assessment of Drinking Water situation: It is seen in our country that most of the health issues are related to impurities in the water that we drink. The idea of clean water is aimed at reducing water related illness in children. The company has created a clean and cool drinking water ecosystem for school children covering RO, Water Cooler, Water tank and Drinking water bay for the children
2)Identifying Government Schools: The initiative will cover 2 government schools: Prafulla Kanan Deshapriya Vidya Mandir, Kestopur and Ashwininagar J.N. Mondal Institution (High), Baguiati, Kolkata. Approximately 3,324 school children will benefit from this activity.
3)Installation of Facility and Creating awareness about water conservation: 15 employees of Mitsubishi Electric India and 10 NGO volunteers attended in the inauguration ceremony at the school. Mitsubishi Electric India would like to inculcate awareness among younger generations about using water sustainably and generate eco-consciousness towards the environment. The idea is to educate children and built a foundation to keep our resources nourished and create a healthier society.
