Northeast Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) is a not-for profit organization founded in 2012. NEIDA was promoted by the Tata Trusts as the nodal agency for the North East Initiative (NEI). NEIDA is registered under the Society Registration Act and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

NEIDA's mission is driven by the need:
To provide appropriate technical support and build farmers capacity to adapt to the changing environment and market forces
To promote collaboration amongst stakeholders that can effect change in improving the quality of lives of rural communities ranging from local NGOs, donor agencies, research organizations, business sector and the government
To ensure that both men and women and youths get equal opportunity to have a voice in issues that affects their lives
To provide knowledge and expertise on a range of issues that lead to enhanced sustainability and greater stability of the social systems of the region
What we do to achieve our Mission
Through direct field engagement and in partnership with local NGOs NEIDA works towards improving the quality of lives of households it works with through:
Improved agriculture and horticulture practices;
Promotion of livestock activities,
Access to safe drinking water and sanitation
Forest Based Livelihoods,
Youth skill Development

Livelihoods project covering 25,000 households
Drinking water project covering 10,000 households
Springshed rejuvenation in 110 villages
Sports promotion (badminton and football) through centre of excellence covering 4200 youths

1. Implementation at scale: NEIDA outcome based implementation of programmes with well defined SOPs and proven expertise to implement large scale project in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
2. Networking and Partnerships: NEIDA is able to play a critical and catalytic role in bringing together state governments and other stakeholders with a range of expertise and resources to work together to address development issues.
3. Knowledge Bank: NEIDA has a repository of resources based on our field experience
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: NEIDA in-house team can lead and facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of projects
5. Technical Expertise: NEIDA has proved in-house technical expertise and knowledge on a range of issues. NEIDA also has the capacity to build local teams with a variety of required technical expertise.
6. Onward Granting: NEIDA has the capacity to identify and work with local NGOs to achieve desired scale. NEIDA has the expertise of grant management for onward granting.

Program Implementation: Designing and implementing effective quality programs requires an understanding of community needs, specialized technical knowledge, and unique and customized approaches to service delivery. NEIDA with a team of 95 professionals spread across three NE states, namely, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland has on the ground knowledge of local issues and contexts. NEIDA’s current outreach through ongoing projects is 35,000 households in more than 300 villages. Our ground level learning and experience from large scale projects enable us to deliver large scale impact of programmes and projects. Our functional expertise cover a range of programme management skills namely: project implementation, project management, service delivery, grant management, partnership management, donor reporting, monitoring and evaluation, financial accountability, documentation, capacity building, thematic specialization, managing risks etc.
Governance and Management: NEIDA is governed by a Governing Body comprising of 5 members that meet regularly. Management of the organization is led by the Executive Director and a team of 94 professionals that are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. Management of the organization is guided by well-defined policies and SOPs. Annual internal systems check and audit is a part of the organizational process with defined audit compliance process. Audit findings and status of compliances are updated to the Governing Body.
Human Resources: NEIDA’s activities are undertaken by a team of 95 professionals with a range of expertise ranging from agriculture, livestock, water, crafts, accounting and financial management, grant management, project management, documentation, monitoring and evaluation and field extension and outreach to achieve its mission and objectives.
Financial Systems: NEIDA has robust financial and accounting systems with strong and transparent internal controls. We also have written down Procurement policies that govern our procurement. Our current internal auditors is PKF Sridhar & Santhanam LLP and statutory auditors is Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP.
External Relations: In a short span of 4 years, NEIDA has started implementing projects directly and we have been able to make a mark in the region within the communities through our track record of quality of work on the ground and gained their trust and confidence. NEIDA has also been able to establish relationship with government departments and is currently implementing projects with government departments as key stakeholders. NEIDA has also partnered with leading national and international resource agencies like People Science Institute, ACWADAM and the International Livestock Research institute. At the policy level, NEIDA was instrumental in developing the Pig Breeding Policy of Government of Nagaland.
