About the organization

CSI is a rights - based organisation working for the underprivileged women and children in the rural as well as urban communities. The organisation started its intervention in the year 1991 with focus on health of children, however in due course, organisation took on an integrated community development approach with health, education & gender as its key focus areas.

CSI’s current programs are around following themes:

Child Rights , Child Protection & Education:

CSI is currently working on strengthening the Early Childhood Care and education component in 108 anganwadis of Timarpur ICDS project. We are doing capacity building of AWWs, helpers , early grade school teachers and also the parents to take up early literacy and mathematics activities at home.

In addition we are running two ECCE centres for children of construction workers at two construction sites at Gurgaon. We are also implementing two projects on child centric disaster risk reduction in 90 MCD schools of  Delhi. These projects focus on enhancing coping and preparedness capacities among the school children and also among the communities surrounding the schools thus leading to Integrated Resilience Building at Household level.

Water ,  Sanitation & Health & Hygiene (WASH) :

We have improved school toilets and have built hand-washing platforms, have installed ROs and, water coolers and have also built drinking water platforms in 16 schools in Delhi & Rohtak. We have also mobilized children to form school health clubs to inculcate positive hygiene practices among them.We have built child friendly toilets and hand washing facilities in 10 anganwadi centers and have also improved 5 community toilet complexes.

Maternal & Child Health : with focus on 1000 days (from conception to age of two years):

We joined hands with White Ribbon Alliance India in campaign last year on “What women want“ and “Youth Bol“ and engaged with about 5000 women and Youth on their demands related to respectful maternity and reproductive and sexual health facilities. We work very closely with adolescent girls and are working with them on menstrual hygiene & anaemia detection.

HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care:

We work on HIV prevention among truckers at Delhi and are also providing care and support to people living with HIV at Firozepur (Punjab) and have provided services to about 1500 people living with HIV/AIDS. We train people living with HIV on self care & on ART adherence and also link them with Social service schemes to improve  quality of their life.

General health & Road Safety for truckers:

CSI  is currently implementing  SAFAR  project for truckers with the support of Asian Paints  Limited at 7 of their plants. In addition, CSI is working at two more sites with the support  of State AIDS Control societies of Delhi & Punjab and at 1 site with the support of Apollo Tyre Foundation. The truckers get free facilities for health consultation, medicines, physiotherapy  etc.

Legal literacy & Women Empowerment:

CSI has mobilised two Mahila Panchayats for community women that offer a community–level, women–centered, women directed redressal mechanism that provides counselling, arbitration and support to victims of domestic violence.

Why should a corporate partner with organization?

A Corporate should partner with Child Survival India (CSI) as the organization has prior experience of implementing Corporate supported projects and the organization fully understands the reporting and MIS requirements of a corporate donor. CSI designs its interventions with clear impact indicators and CSI’s projects provide ample opportunities for employee engagement to a corporate donor .In fact ,CSI team believes employee engagement is a value add in a CSR project.
CSI has strong community mobilization experience. CSI also fully understands that it has to deliver the project deliverables decided with a corporate donor as per the timeline. Thus CSI assigns a dedicated senior management person to take up the responsibility for internal review and monitoring of the CSR project right from the start of the project.
CSI usually employs people from local community to implement the project on ground thus promoting employment of local youth but the organization takes up the responsibility for staff capacity building.
CSI has been able to expand its CSR project with one corporate donor from one of their plant site to 7 of their plant sites thus proving that CSI has the technical expertise and experience of implementing CSR projects and any corporate can trust CSI to effectively and efficiently implement its CSR project in the community.
